I recently bought a single Bb with a stopping valve on eBay in my quest for a
lightweight horn. The cost was $159 plus $69 shipping. I thought I would try
to see if I could get used to a single Bb for a while and then if it worked
out, buy a "real" Bb/A. Relating to Ken's question, there was not a single
mark, engraving, or any way to tell where the horn was from or who made it.
There was a card (next to the white gloves) that indicated it was exported by
"MYW". The valves were not so good, but the horn played pretty well, and the
case was great. It would be a very appropriate horn for someone just starting
out. As someone on the list said a while ago, it is probably just a matter of
time until the Chinese are making pretty good horns. (I gave up my single Bb
project and am donating the horn to a local school program.)
