A question for the educators and students out there... A friend is the band director for a local high school, and he has been budgeted to purchase four new french horns this year. His top sudents own their own instruments, so he is buying for what he calls his intermediate students. He is a trumpet player, and knows very little about the makes and models of horns available. What are the popular models these days? Should he go ahead and invest in Conn 8D's, etc., or scale back a little? Is there much of a price difference between the "professional" mass produced horns and the "student" models? Is it worth saving a few hundred dollars for something less? Thanks in advance for any advice and/or experiences you can share.
