Younger musicians are being trained with no distinction between 'pop' music
and 'classical.' My son is equally at home playing classical, big band, or
horn line in a rock band. When modern concepts of flexible beat and groove
playing are applied to contemporary 'classical' music, the interpretation is apt to
make more sense. I can remember back when Bartok's music was pretty stiff,
but modern orchestras can play it with the same majestic sweep of a John
Williams score. Being able to play 'in the groove' is fast becoming a requirement
for top professionals.

I wonder if that is the one aspect of music that computers will never
conquer.
