Google makes you do a TLS connection, I guess CFMAIL in prior versions of MX just did not like that. I know what most people do for a work around is use stunnel. I actually had been considering just using PHP for mail duties because from what I read it will send emails for Google Apps but not for the standard gmail accounts.
