TLS Encryption for SMTP, SSL encryption for POP.

These were originally non-standard security options for mail servers,
meaning authentication info was passed in plain text, but Google smartly got
the ball rolling by mandating encrypted authentication. It's becoming the
standard (as it should be), but meanwhile some older mail clients (and
ColdFusion) don't support the added complexity.

Take Care,

Seth

Folks, I'm curious what may have made connecting to a Google SMTP server
different (not work before) compared to any other. What do you sense have
"changed"? It's not something I've heard mentioned specifically anywhere (as
either "now" possible or even "still not"). Just curious.

I do not know if cfpop works with it as well, I had stumbled upon the link
when looking for ways to get cfmail to work. Here is one link, I think I
saw another on Forta's page

This is great news. It's something I had asked Ben about at the meeting in
May that he said was "not on the horizon" at the time.

Do you have a link handy where I can read more about this? I have an
immediate use for encrypted POP in one of my apps.

Thanks,

Seth

One thing I read about this weekend for CF8 is that it can now connect to
the Google servers for CFMail. That is something I am looking forward to
since a few of my domains are now hosted on google apps and finding a easy
solution for using cfmail has been a little tricky so far.
