In my experience this is best done via Telnet. Now you could just execute scripts using your favorite telnet app, and just have coldfusion generate the scripts and execute the telnet app using the scripts for easy development which is what I would do, but this is just a hack really. If you want to full on socket style real thing, I suggest you try activesocket http://www.activexperts.com/activsocket/howto/telnet/coldfusion/ as it will allow you to open any kind of socket tcp and telnet included and operate essentially a command line telnet app from coldfusion.

I am going to send it commands and have it return information to me. As well as send it commands to execute on the server. I think what you are trying to do is open a socket to have the Creston report changes in conditions of units and/or communicate desired actions you'd like the Creston server to apply to a specific unit or units. Is this a correct assessment?
