As has been said, there are different web stats analysis tools for different purposes. I'll add one not mentioned yet: Microsoft's Log Parser. It's a free command line tool that lets you use SQL against any kind of log file.
Being a command-line tool, it's not as "pretty" (though it can produce graphs), nor are there any "built-in reports", but nothing is more flexible in being able to analyze log files. If you can write SQL, you can create any kind of analysis you want. And it does have built-in knowledge of web server logs (IIS, Apache, and others). If it interests anyone here, I'll say that to get you started, I've written about it before (in a CFDJ article a few years ago), and I've written also on using it specifically with FusionReactor's logs. Between the two kinds of logs, it really is amazing the kind of analysis one can do. And the good news is that many (many) others have written about using it to do all sort of analysis. And there are even visual gui's available from third parties to help use it (though I've not found them as useful as some might hope). Anyway, I point to all these resources (and the tool itself) at a site on LogParser resources that I've created at http://www.carehart.org/logparser/. Hope that's helpful. BTW, I've been thinking about doing a CFMeetup session on it. If any of you fans of Google Analytics might like to do a presentation some day to so how its helped you, I'd welcome that. I myself would prefer to see a talk with a focus on using it less from the "marketing analysis" and "search optimization" perspective, but I'm sure many others would be just as happy with that. Any talks on CF are welcome to be presented on the CFMeetup (coldfusionmeetup.com). More on presenting at speak.coldfusionmeetup.com. /charlie > -----Original Message----- > From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On > Behalf Of Eddie Pequeno > Sent: Thursday, March 18, 2010 11:29 AM > To: [email protected] > Subject: [houcfug] Coldfusion and Web Stats > > Greetings all. > > How are ya'll tracking web stats? > > There is a way to get some info on webstats via iis logfiles and CF but > I'm looking for something a bit more robust. > > WebTrends is nice but it's just way to expensive.
