Here's a home made roll holder I designed and fabricated: http://www.dfaprinting.com/130rollholder.pdf It works great; however, others have had success with a very basic PVC pipe roll holder which sits on a table behind the printer. It's simple as pie to add the factory HP paper cutter, which mounts on the rail under which the paper exits. The part costs about forty bucks and even comes with a brand new Torx type screwdriver. So the short answer is NO, you don't need the NR model to do what you want to do.
