We recently acquired a couple of DesignJet 5500ps printers. Previously we
where using DesignJet 800s. We have noticed slightly different behavior when
working with cut sheets of paper vs. printing from a roll.

The behavior we see when printing on cut sheets is that the printer will add
the 1.4 margin area to the leading edge before it starts printing the
document. If you have allowed for the 1.4 margin on the leading edge in your
document layout the print starts 2.8 inches from the leading edge. Even
sending the document to be centered on the page produces the same result.

On the DesignJet 800s we used the inked area only function of the printer to
make all this work out correctly. The DesignJet 5500 seems to ignore the
inked only setting (or any page setting for that matter) when dealing with
cut sheets. When printing from a roll the printer behaves as we expect.

Questions:

1. Does the DesignJet 5500 simply behave "differently" when handling cut
sheets? Or is there some setting that needs to be adjusted in the printer
settings.

2. Does anyone have a duplicatable workflow for using cut sheets on a
DesignJet 5500 that doesn't involve strange margin settings? Or printing on
an over sized sheet and trimming?
