The jam was originally caused by the built-in cutter trying to cut the canvas but not being able to even make a dent in it. Following your tip, I moved the cutter blade back and forth, fired up the 130 and what do you know, it functions again! I guess it's not surprising that HP wouldn't have a clue about this workaround.
