If you're doing pre-press proofs, the EFI Designer Edition RIP works very well
(for CMYK
workflow). You need the XL version for the DJ130 (24") printer, which can be
purchased
online for $650 or so...to my knowledge it's still the lowest priced RIP option
for CMYK.
I've been using the DJ130nr with the EFI RIP for about a year for proofs and
mockups of
brochures, packaging, ads, magazines, and other print design work.

The color accuracy and quality/sharpness of the DJ130/EFI combo is consistent
with most
of my commercial print vendor's proofing systems and with what rolls off a
press at
around 200ls in the real world. It's not perfect out of the box. Most likely
you'll either need
to get a custom profile made, or experiment until you find which one of the
standard EFI
profiles works best with whatever media you prefer. Search the messages in this
group/list
and you'll find some posts about the EFI RIP.

I'm sorry not to have chimed in earlier. I've been casually following the
discussion for a few
days, and figured it would ultimately end with one final "I'm sending it back"
post.
