I wouldn't agree with this statement. On matte papers the Ultrachrome inks have a larger gamut than any other ink including K3. Especially where deep colors are involved. This has been my experience when comparing profiles for equivolent papers. I would rate matte papers this way when it comes to gamut:
Ultrachome (Epson 4000, 9600)- best K3 (Epson 4800, 9800)- Second best Lucia (Canon IPF line) - Third best Vivera (Z3100 line) - Fourth best It should be noted that the Canon and Vivera may have more potential when ink seperations (mixing) are improved in the driver but as of now it looks like this is the order by total gamut volume on a given matte paper.
