Hi, Well, I think the key question you want answered is how long the outdoor exhibition is going to be.
The Z series and the direct printing onto foamex are two different types of printing technology. The Z series is a high quality photo printer, which uses pigment based ink for long lasting prints. The detail in these printers is very high. I think some media will withstand soft rain. Using a machine with UV curable inks to print your pictures, you will be able to leave the prints outside for close to 3 or 4 years in one go. But the detail of the prints will not be as high as that of the Z series. The UV curable machines are more for longer viewing distances, (bill)boards etc. The UV machines can take more rigid media than the Z series. Printing on the Z series, laminating one side and the other side with doublesided sticky laminate, you can then stick the prints to (foam)board and have them displayed outside for a long time too. So I think if you have a good idea about the length of your exhibition and what your budget is, that might help to make the right choice. Also the amount of detail you want to show in your prints and the viewing distance are factors to take into account.
