Hello, Shannon, When you activate the command to access the printheads from the control panel, the carriage assembly will move to the left and park in the space where you can access the printheads. The printer will instruct you to lift the top printer cover and allow you to open the spring-loaded access cover to change the printheads. If the top printer cover SENSOR is not working properly (that is, it still thinks the top printer cover is still covering the printer), the carriage assembly will go back to its home position on the right after a few seconds.
Assuming this is the case, please check the top printer cover sensor is not blocked or wedged by something (a lot of printers here have a piece of paper that is wedged in the sensor to allow the top printer cover to be opened during printing for ease of maintenance or monitoring the print jobs). You have to remove the paper or object to make the printer know that the top printer cover is opened - thereby allowing the carriage assembly to stay on the left until you finish changing the printheads.
