Hi TOM, WOW........the 2500CP. That was a good printer. The 5000 replaced it and was even better, then came the 5500 and that was still better. Now there's the Z3100 and if you look on the HP site for designjets, they have the Z6100 coming out, so there's enough to choose from. But just to correct you, there is a PS version for the 3100 and will be for the 6100. Regarding RIP solutions, well, try PosterJet. They have a solution for the Z series designjets. I use the RIP myself and it's really good. Simple, yet powerful. The printer comes qith 12 inks and not 8 and you have to buy the rest. I don't know where you're getting that info from, but it's not really correct. You could also go for the GP solution which will give you added functionality to create RGB and CMYK color profiles.
Regarding the 3100 and 6100, I think the main difference here will be speed and width. Do go on and on.........;). Hope this helps. The Z3100 doesn't appear to be a postscript printer and all the major RIP makers so far appear to not have a solution. Comments please. Any suggestions. Seems like the printer while being a 12 ink printer comes with 8 inks (which means I need to buy a number of additional inks just to get get fully functional). Could that be right?
