Shannon,

I've had that problem with my 5000 and the path doesn't seem to be blocked
at all. I cleaned the rails the print head moves on, based on the maintenance
kit and manual. I also checked the path of the band that moves the print head
and cleaned it out around the pulleys at both ends of the printer with a
vacuum cleaner. This solved the problem. The first time this happened I found
that a small piece of dust/lint by the right sided pulley seemed to cause the
problem. Oiling and cleaning the rails doesn't hurt either. The print heads
will move by hand even if the rails are dirty or there is dust/lint on the
pulleys.
