If you want your prints to look like John Sexton's or George Tice's then yes, print in the darkroom. From large format negs. On the papers they use. Of course, you also need to like the papers they choose (I don't).
These comments always presume some certain standard of BW printing that doesn't really exist. Garry Winogrand, Gene Smith and others also printed BW and their prints don't look like Sexton's. I'm sure they didn't intend for them to. BTW, I have several of the Adams Special Edition prints right here, so I do know what a proper BW print is supposed to look like. And I've printed on Brovira, Portriga, Seagull, Elite, Zone VI, Polymax, Ilford, Arista and about anything I could try out. I appreciate fine BW printing by master printers, but I don't let my past (or others' work) dictate what I'm going to do.
