I had an issue a couple of years back with a different printer and running out of spool space. I seem to recall, the spooler used the temp directory not main memory, so if you are low on disc space for the temp directory, then the job may fail.
The alternative is to turn the spooler off and print direct to the printer. This should be in the printer driver setup, possibly for the printer port.
