I did experience this once with my Designjet 30 and I thought at the
time it had something to do with a process was still attaching some
files used by the driver.

What I did that helped was I selected a different printer and
proceeded to set it up but clicked cancel just prior to printing. Then
I went back to select the problem printer and then I was able to add a
new print pref item.

I'll bet by the time you get this post the problem may have resolved
itself when you either by chance did what I suggested or restarted
your printing software.
