John,

I've posted some problems I've had with the 44" Z3100 but those are long
gone now. I received my printer Jan. 2007 and had some problems after about a
month. They were major but, HP replaced my printer and I've been relatively
issue free since. A couple of problems that HP support helped me with
immediately. I've been very happy with results I get. I print on Lex Jet Satin
Canvas,
HP Professional Matte Canvas, HP Hahnemuhle Smooth and Textured Fine Art
Paper, HP color lucent backlit material, Kodak ID Premium satin, HP ID Premium
Gloss, Epson Canvas, Hahnemuhle Premium Pearl and some others from time to time

without any problems. No roller marks etc. I've produced color profiles with
the printer for all these media without problems each time I replace an ink
cart. I print both color and B&W regularly. My clients are overwhelmingly
satisfied with their prints. I print photographs and reproductions of original
art (oils, watercolor, pastel, pencil, charcoal). Ink usage is very economical
and cost effective. I get my ink and some paper from IT Supplies, some from
Lex Jet and some from HP.

My experience with HP support, with a couple of early exceptions, has been
excellent. Any individuals experience with support HP's or other mfg's. will
depend on the sophistication of the user and the particular support person
you get. Some times you just have to move along the food chain and ask for a
supervisor. I purchased mine from Plotter Pros in CA and received very good
help and advice from them.

I've also follow the comments on Luminous Landscape as well as this forum
and my conclusion is that these are a minority of the users. Generally those
pleased with the printer really have no reason to post comments. The forum is
really designed to help people with problems and therefore is biased in that
direction. This is a very sophisticated printer and users and potential users
must realize the complexity of this equipment. It is not a simple plug and
use system. When maintained and used properly it produces magnificent,
consistent results.

Several years ago I used Epson's but got so tired of the waste and clogged
heads among other things such as poor support, passing the buck, bad ink, poor
construction etc. I switched to HP. I've very happy with HP ever since. I
have the Z3100, 5000 UVPS and B9180. All print very well.

If a user uses common sense, keeps up with updates, third party suggestions,
and maintains the equipment there will be minimal problems. But, it is still
a complex devise and things will go wrong from time to time just like with
any such equipment.

In the end all the printers print well, some better than others in different
users environments. We all have our personal preferences and unfortunately
you can't tell if the printer fits yours until you try it. I just look at the
available features and pick the one I think will suit me best assuming it
works properly since there will be problems with them all at some time. If you
want to discuss this more extensively contact me off line.

Good Luck.
