Hi John:
I received my Z3100 printer in March 2007.
I have had no problems with the printer, no roller marks, or any other
problems. Excellent color, great results on a variety of papers. Cost
of ink and media are good. Loading rolls of paper is easy. Print speed
is great. I've been through several firmware upgrades and OS releases
on Macintosh. It's a snap to setup on OSX 10.5 since all the software
is built-in -- nothing to install.
HP support has been really great -- in contrast to their support on
less expensive products.
The only thing I can think of that I'd improve is more flexibility on
width of borders -- especially on sheet paper. The Z was clearly
designed for rolls not sheets.
I'd highly recommend the printer.

Jim,
I was just talking with my supplier about ordering a Z today and I
froze and didn't do it.
All these posts are really driving me nuts. I've been trying to decide
about this machine for a year now. Some love em and some hate em with
a passion. If the posts on LL are an average experience then this
printer has real issues. If we are just hearing from a small faction
of people seeking solutions, then that is something else. One dealer I
spoke with today said he has never seen so many DOA printers in his
life.
If the vast majority of these complaints are about simple firmware
glitches, and the rollers not working on fiber gloss media I can
certainly live with that. The HP Satin rc paper is excellent for the
time being. But if we are talking about poor workmanship and faulty
circuits and poor quality control of parts then I think I'll have to
pass, reluctantly. I just don't know the answer to that question yet.
I do know that Epson will answer with a strong 44" machine this fall
that will certainly contain the advancements of the 11880. That
machine also has a free ink channel that isn't even being used yet
(glop).
My delemma is I don't want to wait until the fall. My 9600 is so slow
and I'm still switching out blacks like I can afford it.
>From all the people you've talked to about this Z would you do it
again or not? I know that is a difficult thing to answer if you
already spent 6 grand. Anyone else I would love to hear your pros and
cons.
Thanks,
John
