Last October I posted a Reseat Pen Error topic on this group and received several responses. I'd like to thank those who offered useful advice. Unfortunately none of it solved the problem. After trying 4 different pen carriages and not getting any improvement, I decided to research the HP archives. There I found a clue talking about not commingling different species of pens i.e. don't mix #40 with #50 pens. Problem resolved. The error message seems to have nothing to do with the pen types but here's what works for me: Upon initial turn on have only #50 pens installed (except for black which apparently only comes in #40). If you have some #40 pens that you would like to use you can insert them by stopping the carriage while it is in mid travel (do this by raising the lid). Then replace the #50 colored pens with your #40 pens and close the lid. My 650C tolerated this mixture until I did a pen check or until the next start up (which forces a pen check). So now I have other questions: 1. Why does it object to mixing #40 with #50 pens? 2. Is there any relationship between this mixing and the Reseat Pen error message? 3. Is there any difference between #40 and #50 pens?
