It is an OfficeJet 5610. I am using Fedora Core 5 with all the updates. The symptoms are exactly as in Ralf's message: extra scans while the ADF is switching pages. Older versions of scanimage (up to 1.0.17) work since they call sane_cancel after every page. Newer versions of scanimage and xsane do not work, but a patched xsane does.
