Hi all, I've had a 4110 for years that I use mostly as a scanner. It's worked very well for me, especially since HPLIP came on the scene. Since sometime after 0.9.2, I've been having ADF problems. The ADF no longer senses out-of-paper - scanimage batch scans run until they're killed with ^C. I have to give scanimage --batch-count=1 to scan a single page. Multi-page batch scans, especially beyond 2 pages, don't accurately find page boundaries - they generate about 3 pages for every 2 (but it varies). I thought my trusty old was 4110 giving up the ghost, so I bought a 4315. It gives the same results - no ADF-empty and unreliable page-boundary detection with 2+ page batch scans. The 4110's ADF works fine under 0.9.2. The 4315 isn't supported by 0.9.2, so I can't test that. I've reproduced the ADF mis-behavior with 0.9.7 and 1.6.7 under Debian (sid/etch) AMD64 and Ubuntu (6.0.6 - Dapper) AMD64 and i386. 0.9.7 and 1.6.7 behave the same w.r.t. the ADF. 0.9.2 has too many crufty old dependencies, so it's not really an option.
