This might make a difference. Yes, this makes the difference! I didn't notice that it depends on whether or not the device is connected via ethernet. I can even reproduce your problem now. Somehow I must have overlooked that it worked only for my LaserJet 1220 but not for my Officejet 7210 or I did the test with the Officejet 7210 only with HPLIP 1.6.10?
