OK, I guess you finally understand what I want ;) > I could be incorrect..but maybe you are looking for this? > > http://penguin-breeder.org/sane/saned/
Yes, this is what I am talking about. The Photosmart is connected to a server. This server has the sane network daemon (saned) running, which is supposed to provide access to the local scanners over the network. This local saned uses the "hpaio"-backend (which is configured correctly). On all the other machines on the network I am only using plain sane (with the "net" backend to connect to the server). hplip is only installed on the server (which should be sufficient as the sane network daemon uses the hpaio backend). This setup always worked (up to hplip 1.6.10). The log of saned always looked like this (when I connect to the server using any client on the network): [saned] check_host: subnet with base IP = 192.168.2.0, CIDR netmask = 24 [saned] check_host: access granted from IP address 192.168.2.16 (in subnet 192.168.2.0/24) [saned] init: access granted [saned] init: access granted to [EMAIL PROTECTED] [saned] process_request: waiting for request [saned] process_request: got request 1 [saned] process_request: waiting for request [saned] process_request: got request 2 [saned] process_request: access to resource `hpaio' granted [saned] process_request: sane_open returned: Success [saned] process_request: waiting for request [saned] process_request: got request 4 [saned] process_request: waiting for request [saned] process_request: got request 5 [saned] process_request: waiting for request [saned] process_request: got request 5 [saned] process_request: waiting for request As you can see the "critical" line appears: "[saned] process_request: access to resource `hpaio' granted" But when you compare it to the logs of the sane network daeomon I sent in my first email you'll notice that nothing concerning "hpaio" appears and the the request jumps from "request 1" to "request 10". And this is why I think either something is messed up with hplip or something has changed internally.
