Hi Aaron,
I followed your advice:
        - created a HP Fax queue
        - printed to HP Fax queue from within OpenOffice
        - ran hp-sendfax ( while I left OpenOffice open )
        - send Fax ( no error message )
        - closed OpenOffice

The received Fax only contained a part of the whole Fax.
Error message:
(-0x45D) Unexpected end of file while receiving: <phone#>
was displayed on receiving end.

So to answer your question this alternative seems not to work although
I successfully sent a Fax which I selected from the "browser" in
hp-sendfax.

Do you have further hints ?

regards,

Re: [Hplip-help] hp-sendfax from OpenOffice or alternative ?
Classification

If possible try faxing using this method,

open openoffice, print the document to the HP Fax queue. Leave openoffice
open, run hp-sendfax, the document should appear in the queue and complete
the fax.

Does this work?

Hello List,
does anyone know if it's possible to start hp-sendfax from OpenOffice ?
What I mean is : is it possible to add a 'Fax' Printer in OpenOffice by
using spadmin and use hp-sendfax as print command?

I'm using OpenSuSE 10.2, hplip-hpijs-2.7.7-21.1 and hplip-2.7.7-21.1.
I used spadmin to add a 'Fax' Printer. Command to 'print' is:
/usr/bin/hp-sendfax -n --gg -f(PHONE) (TMP)

Once I started to print from OpenOffice to my printer ( HPOJ 7310 ) the
printer dials the number, connects to the fax on the other end of the line
and seems to send the first page.
Waiting for several minutes nothing seems to happen. Then the connection
is ended withouth successfully sending the fax.
Starting hp-sendfax from command line works fine.

Does anyone know what's wrong here ?

Is there an alternative like using lpr and an option like the number which
has to be used for dialing ?

I really appreciate the work which has been done for in the hplip project
the last two printers my wife and I bought were an OfficeJet D135 and HPOJ
7310.
Both were bought because of the support for Linux!

Thanks in advance.

regards,
Wolfgang
