Gosh, that sounds like the opening line to every movie on this week, but
thank you for the soft ball :)

Some background.
This campaign is about the Orca Screen Reader a free, open source,
application that provides access to the graphical desktop via
user-customizable combinations of speech and/or braille. Written in
python, it provides a way for blind, low vision, dyslexic, etc. people
to do all the things we all take for granted. Filing taxes, checking
when the next bus is leaving, or simply earning a living.

The problem is that while this program is so essential to so many
peoples lives it has only O.N.E. (1) developer. That can be fixed by,
either Cash, Code and/or Cooperation.

Cash
They're looking to raise $100,000 to hire two full time contractors to
fix all the outstanding bugs in Orca. Will HPR be able to raise this by
ourselves ? Probably not, but that number was suggested by Jason
Calicanis and if he thinks he can then great. We can however get the
word out on G+, Twitter, Facebook etc.

Code
We've had 17 episodes with Python in their title and many more where it
was discussed. So it's possible that we could convince some of those
people to have a look at orca.

Cooperation
The most important thing we can do is raise the profile of Accessible
Computing. We can contribute documentation, put people in touch with
advisor's, tell our friends that Orca and exists, record new voices for
the speech engine, and generally making Orca not just better but, ten
times better.

So to summarise we do what we do. We talk about stuff, write tutorials,
contribute code, record shows, hold talks at conferences, put ideas in
peoples heads, raise awareness, chip away, chip away, chip away. After 7
years, 6 months, 22 days that is what *we* do best.

Ken.
