Thanks for that, Jim! I am glad it isn't just my system. The OS X crash is probably a good thing to look at, if it occurs early in the dig. (a) Could you please post (or mail me) the complete backtrace? (b) Does it still occur without compression? (c) Are you using zlib-1.1.4? (I have had core dumps with earlier versions, but not since upgrading.)
