21621 words seems like a lot for 2 documents, don't you think. I'm
getting the impression that htmerge might be operating on a different
database than the one built by htdig. Are you using the same config
file for both htdig and htmerge? If you're hosting 5 domains on your
server, presumably you're using -c to provide a different config file to
htdig/htmerge for each domain. Any chance you might be giving htmerge
the wrong config file, and updating the database for another domain?
I think we have quite a few FreeBSD users, and I've never come across a
problem report quite like this, so a platform-specific problem in htmerge
doesn't seem like a likely explanation at this point. From what I see
in the htmerge/words.cc code, I can't see how it can report a non-zero
total word count without creating a word database file somewhere.
