I guess I'm not clear on the problem here.

I wouldn't think it's an issue with the version of BerkeleyDB (which 
is almost assuredly at least v. 2.something), but perhaps an older 
version of Perl.

If for some reason the Perl is new enough, the source version of 
ht://Dig comes with the appropriate version of the Berkeley DB and 
you could link against that.
