Maybe it's a good thing it doesn't! It's a horribly BAD idea to put everything in a directory right under your DocumentRoot because then all your config files, template files and database files are directly accessible by anyone with a web browser. In a proper configuration, only the image files, initial search form, and the htsearch CGI program should be visible from the browser. -- Gilles R.
