The "Unknown host" error would suggest that your nameserver is having problems delivering the information. This is odd because it should be caching the address records, so that when htdig repeatedly asks for the address for the same host name, the nameserver should be able to give it back quite quickly. Maybe your server running htdig should be configured to use a different name server (one fairly local to it). -- Gilles R.
