You don't say what the client needs, but I'd never recommend a beta
product for a client unless the beta offers features critical to the
intended use. In this case, 3.2 offers phrase searching and significantly
more flexible configuration among the big feature gains at the moment.

If you don't need phrase searching or other 3.2 features, I highly
recommend the pre-release of 3.1.6 (it should be released later this
week). The 3.1.x series is the only series recommended for production
environments.

That said, I'm obviously interested to know more about your error--I have
not been able to reproduce this particular problem myself. So if you have
more information, please let us know. Important details would include
whether you compiled the source yourself and how you're updating the
databases via cron. (I'm assuming as an update dig, rather than rebuilding
from scratch all the time.) How big are your database files? How much free
space is there on the disk?
