You can't ping a particular port number, only a host. Pings use ICMP protocol, not TCP, so even if a host responds to pings it doesn't mean it will respond to TCP requests on all ports. Are you sure your HTTP server was running on www.aesir.nl when you ran htdig? Can you run lynx or some other web browser right on the machine on which you run htdig, to access any URL you have listed in start_url? -- Gilles R.
