The reason Gabriele suggests this is that there are a slew of bug fixes 
and enhancements in 3.1.6. It is the recommended production version.

The use of the pdf_parser is depreciated as there have been many 
problems using Acrobat on Linux with version 4. At this point, it's more 
reliable to use xpdf's translators.
