Aha - htnotify, not htmerge.

The short term solution is to comment out the call to htnotify in rundig. If you're 
not planning on using the htnotify service, you're done.

If you want to use htnotify, there's a patch:

The system was running out of swap. I added a swap file and now rundig 
gets a bit further along before ending with the "Abort" message. 
Monitoring processes when it fails I noticed htnotify was running and 
consuming a GB of memory.

/var/tmp has about 7gb available.
