Thank you Jim for giving me more easily understood
instructions.  I will try your suggestions.  In the
meantime though, after I read, and re-read your
previous reply to me several times, I added a link to
my localhost index.html page for the user files I was
trying to use in the search database.  This worked,
with no changes to the config file.  And yes .htm
extensions worked just fine.

I was also able to place a search box on my user's
home page and create a symbolic link to htsearch.  So
far so good.

One more question though.  Some of the files that I
have in my user web pages are .txt extensions.  These
work with the web browser, but are not indexed in the
search.  Is this something that can be corrected in
the config file?  With the external parser??
