  • Teen chooses prom over appendectomy

PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Even surgery can't keep some kids from going to the prom.

Jonas Stoyanoff's doctor agreed to postpone his appendectomy long enough for him to take his girlfriend to the prom. However, the high school junior had to cut his evening short in order to make his 10:00 p.m. date at the hospital.

"(The surgery) can wait, I guess I couldn't miss this for anything," said Stoyanoff.

Museum visitor sits on Ming Dynasty chair, breaks it

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- A visitor to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts picked one of the worst possible places to sit for a rest on Sunday: a 16th-century Ming Dynasty chair

The man broke the back of the chair, valued in six figures, in three places. Fortunately, it was along the same lines as a previous break.

Traffic light changer results in fraud charges

MIAMI (Reuters) -- Two Miami residents were charged with fraudulently selling what they called "Go-boxes" over the Internet, prosecutors said Wendesday.

The "Go-boxes" were supposed to change red traffic lights to green lights. After sending in anywhere from $69 to $150 some customers received schematic drawings that produced a strobe light, while others received nothing at all.

Crazed beaver terrorizes two large dogs

WINNIPEG, Manitoba (Reuters) -- A Canadian farm woman said a beaver "terrorized" her two giant Newfoundland dogs, Bonnie and Billy, pinning them to a fence and biting their legs and faces.

"I've lost all respect for beavers. I never would have imagined this from a beaver," she said of the recent incident.

MOVIE OF THE WEEK: squeaky-clean veggies

NEW YORK (CNN) -- It's not enough that we wear clean clothes. A home products giant thinks we ought to wash our fruit, too.

Procter & Gamble, makers of Tide and Cheer, is introducing a mass-market detergent designed to rid fruits and vegetables of dirt, wax and fingerprints.

It's safe, it's natural and best of all -- hey, I can see myself in this bunch of bananas.
