Fierce rivalry in 'Olympics' for brainboxes
LONDON -- Dominic O'Brien is one of the world's great sporting champions. True, he is not the fastest sprinter on the planet, nor is he especially proficient at pole-vaulting, synchronized swimming or Greco-Roman wrestling.
He can, on the other hand, memorize 18.5 decks of shuffled playing cards in an hour, and a random sequence of 2,079 binary numbers in half that time.

Europe: A continent of bizarre sporting endeavours
All too often in Europe, the big sports have tended to overshadow the smaller ones. Tennis, football, cycling and rugby are all very well, but there are a host of other smaller competitions that are every bit as exciting to watch (or in some cases listen to).
Take the World Screaming Championships, which have recently been wowing audiences (and breaking windows) throughout a town in northern Poland.

Officers' drill offends Norway's soldiers
OSLO -- Norway's military leaders have ordered officers to tone down their language after a complaint from the soldiers' union that parade ground taunts were hurting the feelings of some troops.
The soldiers were offended by comments referring to their mothers and laced with swear words.

KAMPALA, Uganda -- A court in Uganda has rejected a 97-year-old man's bid to divorce his wife.
He claimed she was the cheating kind. But the court told him to open his wallet.
