OK, have downloaded the most recent edition Hugin 2010.5.0.4886:a1cb4a2efa65 (Mac) - thank you for direction to this. Some nice changes, looks good, re preview. Weirdly, same outcomes, crash when doing final construct of panorama and writing file. If I have error files were do I send them to help?
