The general word on the masking procedure seems to be the use of a large
room fan can mask hum.
There are white noise generators that do the same thing and this can be
simulated by tuning your bedside radio to between channels on a medium
volume hiss.
Give that a try, rather than struggle with ear pieces which can detach etc.
and may not be good long term.
If you're doing 'heavy' concerts -you'll also not be grateful for any long
term tinnitus thus generated eventually, either!
