Hello Jim A couple of years ago I was commissioned to play hurdy-gurdy and sing a Tiger Lilies song as part of a Channel 4 production. I had total freedom to arrrange the song as I liked, but had the advantage of a musical director to lick my performance into shape. What the MD visualised was me and my instrument integrated as one rather than me merely playing accompaniment. The results have been posted on youtube so if you go to www.drohne.co.uk you can view how it turned out. I don't say it is the right way but it worked for me, and I think the song which was made for my dark kind of gurdy sound.
