(This accidentally went just to Jon earlier. So I'm resending it now.
Apologies to Jon who will see two copies.)

I used a standard cello peg reamer in my case. I don't know the angle
on that. A viola reamer would work in most cases, I think, but was
just a tad too small in the case of my existing holes, so I had to
step up a size in pegs. I sent my existing dimensions to Brian and he
picked the right pegs for me.

They wouldn't work for a zanfona with transverse pegs (i.e., pegs with
the string holes in the middle of the pegs’ body), for a traditional
Hungarian-style instrument with its massive pegs, nor for a Ukrainian
lyra with transverse pegs. Other than for those, however, (i.e., for
most HG's where the hole is near the tip) they would work. Go take a
look at Neil's site that Jon sent a link to earlier and compare the
pegs there with your existing pegs. If they have a similar
configuration with respect to the hole position, then Pegheads will
work. For probably 95%+ of French-style instruments, they would work.

Actually, these are probably the only machine tuners that *would*
satisfy a traditionalist. Unless you're a traditionalist based on some
sort of uncompromising principle, they probably would suit you because
they look like the real deal. Unless you are really up close and
looking from beneath the instrument you will find that they are
virtually indistinguishable from ebony pegs. For example, I would
*never* use banjo tuners on a HG because I find them to look
completely wrong (and think they are as ugly as sin), but have no
problem at all with using these. They are beautiful and could be used
on any instrument with traditional violin-style pegs without looking
out of place.
