Drilling out the string hole is not a problem as long as you use a
good quality sharp drill bit. I haven't noticed any overheating and
don't even need to clamp them under the drill press. Once drilled out,
it's important to take the resulting sharp edges from the new hole. I
use a countersink but a larger drill bit works fine too. I also tend
to countersink all the holes slightly as this exposes a tiny ring of
aluminium round the hole which makes it easy to see when stringing.
