"As often as it needs it" is a silly answer, but a true one. It depends on your taste. Some instruments operate reasonably over a pretty wide range of rosining conditions, and some players tolerate a pretty wide range. Some players have a narrower range and less tolerance. I once saw Pierre Imbert add rosin 7 times during a 20 minute rhythm session - of course he was making sure that his trompette was "just so" for the session. Any time the sound is thin, try rosining.
