It can do MIDI output, but I doubt it would do more than that. LilyPond is free, openSource software aimed primarily at high-quality typesetting (they make a big deal about being better than FInale). It doesn't include many whistles and bells not aimed at that end and doesn't even have a GUI. It's actually a programming language for writing instructions that tell a typesetting engine enough information about the music to do a nice job of displaying it on a page. I can generate basic midi and see how it sounds. If anyone else could import the midi and apply real instrument voices, maybe something could be done, but I couldn't do it alone...
