Update. I had previously tried to shim, but only lightly. Shimming with thickish card does cut the volume, but I will try another string and see what happens. It just seems odd ( maybe its this bad winter weather ) that the string had almost doubled in volume. Thats on the D/G side, the G/C half of the instrument is perfect. Thanks for the suggestions JON
