Thanks Alden - I will contact you off list about this. Another thing I am thinking about is materials. I wonder if I could fabricate a part from bone or antler. I'm inspired here by bridge pins such as you would find on an acoustic guitar, which are friction-fitted but seem as tough as nails - it's not as if the hurdy-gurdy is a vegetarian instrument :-)
