Thanks Scott,
I cannot however get Acid to synch with my yamaha. In fact I cannot get
anything to act as the master and use the yamaha as slave. I've managed it
the other way around i.e with Cakewalk and rebirth, but for some reason
there is absolutely no midi coming into the yamaha. I've swapped cabling
etc but it won't have it. If I use, say acid as the master, should I just
start the yamaha and then start acid which should kick of the yamaha? If
so, I've tried it but it doesn't wanna know. Is there a way of testing midi
in to the yamaha?
K.

Kieron,
I'm not sure about Cubase, but I'd guess that it's the same way. If you
have a
new version of Cubase, and haven't invested much time into learning
Cakewalk,
I'd go straight to Cubase. I get the feeling that it's a little 'kewler' of
an
app than Cake, which is occasionally rather dorky.
My recommendation is to use Acid as your audio app and then sync to it. If
you
ever get a real sampler, you can export all of your mixes to the sampler
from
Acid.
